For the first time this season Collingbourne were asked to bat first and made a good start taking 25 from the first 2 overs. The innings slowed a little as Hungerford bowled a couple of tight overs and Sam McGuire was run out. Owen Sheppard made 25 and retired but Collingbourne found themselves way behind where they wanted to be with 2 wickets down, 2 overs left and only 57 runs on the board. A late flurry from Robin Ball, (before he had to retire hurt with a busted knee) Mark Brett (13*) and Billy Brett (7*) meant that Collingbourne were defending a score of 92 for 2 from their 10 overs. In reply Hungerford played very one track minded as they tried to hit every ball to the back wall. Hungerford made a similar quick start taking 24 from the first 2 overs. But it was the straight bowling of Brian Silverwood that made the breakthrough as he bowled of the Hungerford openers. Billy Brett then decided to bowl a good line and length with a fair bit of spin as he had 2 wickets caught on the back wall by Sheppard and Silverwood in separate overs. Good fielding all round from Collingbourne saw all catches held and 3 good run outs throughout the innings with replacement wicket keeper McGuire making good ground to take 2 of them and substitute fielder Ivor Rowell assisting to remove the last Hungerford batsman with his 3rd touch of the ball. Collingbourne dismissed Hungerford for 62 and claimed their first victory of the season. Next up a very spicy Collingbourne A v Collingbourne B fixture, watch this space.
