January Indoor League Reports Jan 15th: Collingbourne B fielded first and quickly took a foot hold as Billy Brett brilliantly ran out Graham Chandler with a direct hit from a tight angle. Collingbourne A pulled the game back towards them with a high scoring partnership between Karl Gingel (27) and the returning Tim Nichols (34*). With the 2 of them retiring and the injured Jon Candler going for back wall bashes only Collingbourne B picked up another couple of wickets as Brian Silverwood bowled Archie Scott and late call up Ashley McGurie was run out for 4. The re-introduction of Gingel and Nichols took Collingbourne A over the 100 mark and they finished their innings with 126 for 5 as Mark Brett bowled Gingel with the last ball of the innings. In reply Collingbourne B started well as they took 24 from the first 2 overs. It was again the introduction of Nichols that turned the tide as he caught and bowled both Owen Sheppard and Mark Brett in the same over. John Baxter and Brian Silverwood kept the board going while opener Sam McGuire carried on hitting and running. With the departure of both Silverwood (run out) and Baxter, Sam McGuire found a useful running partner in young Billy Brett. In the 8th over there was a nice touch when under 15 Ashley McGuire bowled to under 16 Billy Brett. But the innings belonged to Sam McGuire in the end as he batted through the entire innings and was last man standing for Collingbourne with 47 not out to his name including 3 sixes. His first over 25 for the B-team this season and he didn’t even get the chance to retire. Collingbourne A came out of the game deserved winners stopping Collingbourne B at 93 for 5 with Tim Nichols being named by most as man of the match.
