In an exciting and very close match, there were runs aplenty with Tom Edmonds and Ben Nichols top scoring for their respective teams. Post match fun continued afterwards in the Blue Lion where John’s cricket bat (signed by players and friends) was presented to Michelle.Funds raised from the match and various activities amounted to £525 which will be donated to Cancer Research and Countess of Brecknock Hospice. 1st XI End With Convincing Win. 2nds Flounder at the Last 28th August: The 1st XI dismissed Melkshem Town for 90 and then knocked the runs off without losing a wicket to finally guarantee their position for next year. This has been a hard fought campaign amid difficult circumstances at times and this is just reward. Charlie Knight and John Baxter got away to a good start posting 53 for the first wicket in 15 overs before Baxter went LBW for 26. Pete Reynolds and Charlie then added 31 before Reynolds was out. Unfortunately Knight soon followed for 49. Bert Rogers and Jamie Stamp staged a revival both being dismissed for 20 in quick succession. The rest of the batting then simply folded and from a promising position Collingbourne ended all out for just 157. Hopes were high when Jim Nicholson bowled Hinton skipper Anil with score on 7. Steve Knight then took a stunning catch at backward square leg and Hinton were 20-2. That was the last success for the Collingbourne bowlers as Scott Creed and Harry Brooker shared an unbroken stand of 142 to take their side to victory. However, the 2nds will finish in fourth place in the league a very creditable effort all round and congratulations to all who contributed. 2nd XI averages for 2010 are now available and may be read here.
